Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Erling Haaland scored for the defending champions, who moved ahead of the Gunners on goal difference despite having a game in hand.

Manchester City earned a crucial 3-1 victory over title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday, knocking the Gunners off the top of the Premier League. Pep Guardiola's team demonstrated that they were unwilling to relinquish the title with a ruthless display of finishing that saw them ahead of Arsenal on goal difference.

Kevin De Bruyne put City in front in the first half at Emirates Stadium. While Bukayo Saka's controversial penalty equalized the score, Jack Grealish saved City's lead in the second half.
Erling Haaland's 26th goal decided the game's final minutes. In the most-anticipated match of the season, City took the lead in the Premier League title race.

Although Arsenal has a game in hand that could tip the scales back in their favor, City returned home with renewed confidence that they can win their fifth title in six seasons.

Guardiola's team has won four of their last five league games, despite trailing Arsenal by eight points a month ago. City's title defense is overshadowed by the Premier League's charge last week that the club violated more than 100 financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

The race, however, could reach a memorable climax with City hosting Arsenal on April 26 in a seemingly do-or-die showdown for both teams.

Arsenal, seeking their first Premier League title since 2003-04, could not contain City's battle-hardened stars. Mikel Arteta's side has lost their last four games in all competitions, beginning with an FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, followed by a shock defeat at Everton and Saturday's draw with Brentford.

Arteta, who worked as Guardiola's assistant before joining Arsenal, discovered how difficult it is for the apprentice to outwit the teacher. Guardiola has defeated Arteta in seven of their eight meetings, which is the most important. Grealish forced Takehiro Tomiyasu into a miscued backpass in the 24th minute, giving City the lead.

De Bruyne took advantage of the error with a perfectly weighted chip from the edge of the box that floated over out-of-position keeper Aaron Ramsdale and into the net.

De Bruyne's first goal since October last year, and only his fourth of the season, was a rare bright spot in the Belgian midfielder's difficult season.

Three minutes before halftime, Arsenal drew level in contentious fashion. Ederson went off his line and collided with the Arsenal striker just as Nathan Ake cleared the ball off the line as Eddie Nketiah shot goalwards from a tight angle.

Ederson appeared to be attempting to back out of the challenge. Still, Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty despite City's vehement protests, and Saka stepped up to send Ederson the wrong way with a slick strike.

After halftime, tempers were flying high when De Bruyne shoved Arteta with an exchange of angry words after the Arsenal manager stopped him from collecting the ball.

Amid a frantic battle, City kept calm and gradually turned the screw. The foul on Haaland by Gabriel was ruled a penalty, but the Norway star was offside when receiving Kyle Walker's pass, so the penalty decision was reversed.

Nonetheless, City's pressure paid off in the 72nd minute when a sweeping move cut through Arsenal's defense.

In the 82nd minute, Haaland sealed the points by drilling into the far corner from De Bruyne's cross, emphasizing City's desire to retain their title.

Transfers in Manchester City

Manchester City had one in and one out in January, as their predictably quiet transfer window played out as expected. Enthusiastic platform GGBET opens more exciting discoveries about Manchester City, and now we talk deeply about current transfers.

Joao Cancelo's late loan exit to Bayern Munich was the headline transfer in January, with youngster Maximo Perrone joining to be assessed for any future role.

Cancelo chose to leave City on loan after becoming dissatisfied with his lack of playing time in recent weeks, and he will remain with Bayern until the end of the season. The German club then has a £61 million option to make a move permanent, though Cancelo has stated that he would be open to returning to City.

Perrone will arrive in Manchester soon after Argentina's campaign at the South American Under-20 Championships concludes earlier than expected, and the 20-year-old will train with City's first team until the season's end. The club will decide whether he will stay at the Etihad next season or go on loan.
