John Stones and Gabriel Jesus are amongst a quartet of players who haven't travelled with the squad to Germany, after sustaining injuries during the FA Cup win at Newport. Jesus is thought to have a hamstring problem, whilst Stones has a groin issue, although neither injury is thought to be serious.

The other players to miss out are Fabian Delph and Benjamin Mendy, but there was brighter news for Pep Guardiola as captain Vincent Kompany was named ion the squad after returning to training yesterday.

Guardiola, meanwhile, said his side were in confident mood ahead of the tie at the Veltins-Arena.

“I believe the team can do better things than the first season," he said.

"We know each other much better. But this competition is special. The teams are good.

"You have to control your emotions. You have to suffer and survive the bad moments. But we are confident.
