City's injury crisis has deepened ahead of the top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool, after Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ederson would miss the game. The Blues are now missing six senior first team players, with Leroy Sane, Aymerica Laporte, Rodri, David Silva and Oleksandr Zinchenko also unavailable for the trip to Anfield. Claudio Bravo will deputise for Ederson, and Guardiola said he had full confidence in his back-up goalkeeper.

"We have another keeper. Claudio Bravo and he can do it, too. I have every confidence in him.

"We won the Carabao Cup thanks to Claudio. He is an exceptional keeper and has won a lot of international games and tournaments with Chile. I have no doubts."

City find themselves in the rare position of underdogs on Sunday, and Guardiola expressed his admiration for Jurgen Klopp's side:

"For me as a manager, last season when we won the Premier League, Liverpool were the best contender I ever faced in my career.

"It was one of our biggest achievements as a club. We were there. It remains the same

"Right now, Liverpool are one of the strongest teams in the world; we know what it means to lay at Anfield. It's 90 minutes,we are going to try to follow the plan in this game."

City's last visit to Anfield ended in a 0-0 draw, with Riyah Mahrez missing a last minute penalty for the Blues. Overall City have won 48 of the 183 games played against Liverpool, with 46 draws and 89 defeats.
